God's Notary: A Devotion
A notary is someone appointed to be a witness of oaths and authenticate the one who is promising or attesting truth or validity as able to do so through a variety of verifications. The person who becomes a notary has committed to examining documentation and seeking the truth before accepting the contents of a document or witnessing an important event in an officiating capacity. A notary really is nothing more than a witness. The person who is chosen to become a notary must undergone a stringent verification process themselves to determine themselves truthful and responsible to carry out such duties. Once all requirements are met, the notary is given a seal with their name and information to indicate that they are in fact a witness and essentially a truth seeker.
Jesus Christ underwent a stringent process to verify that He truly was the Son of God. He set aside His Crown to come to earth and prove that without sin it was totally possible to live a perfect existence. He made many promises while present in the world. Some that seemed beyond comprehension but had to be proven valid to be the Truth. Jesus underwent horrific torture and an offensive death to fulfill the scriptures and satisfy the eternal debt of a people who were doomed. However, no one in today's society could be a firsthand witness of such things and must rely on those who were and the Holy Spirit to authenticate it for them. One such witness was Paul. At the time of his appointment, Paul was actually persecuting the Christians. He was a devout Jew who was a witness of the Law and not the Truth of Jesus Christ. Once Paul encountered Jesus, his role dramatically changed as He became a witness of the Truth. But simple knowledge of the truth did not stop in the midst of the dusty road, he then was given a new mandate, he was to be a witness. Paul was to tell everyone what he had seen and heard in that moment of conversion. His job in life had changed. He was now God's notary who would authenticate the works of Christ, the ways of God, and be a true witness while here on earth. He was bound to the Truth! Are you God's notary today?
A notary is bound by truth. The mark of a notary's seal indicates that they have in fact seen the evidence and are convinced of the validity. Are you convinced that Jesus Christ is who He said He was? Do you believe that He did what the Word says? Are you convinced that He is alive even today? Being aware and being confident are two entirely different things. A notary may think they know someone or hear their name in introduction but will not affix their seal to any document until the individual provides proper documentation or proof of their identity. Jesus will gladly provide His Credentials to anyone willing to seek the Truth. He has no problem revealing himself to those who desire to know who He is! A notary is subject to the law for falsely using their seal. It is their oath to seek the truth and attest only to what they know and has been proven before them! As a witness of Jesus Christ, it is our job to search his identity and know who He is personally. In the terms of a notary, Jesus is to be personally known to me! Are you willing to put everything on the line today when you tell others of the truth of Jesus Christ? Are you totally confident to the point of complete personal investment that He is who He said? To move beyond personal salvation into the Call of Jesus Christ, one must first authenticate the Truth of God's Word for themselves. God desires witnesses who are confident of the Truth through careful personal inspection and total acceptance of His Truth! Is that you today?
Jeremiah 4:1-2 (NLT)
"O Israel," says the Lord, "if you wanted to return to me, you could. You could throw away your detestable idols and stray away no more. Then when you swear by my name, saying, 'As surely as the Lord lives,' you could do so with truth, justice, and righteousness. Then you would be a blessing to the nations of the world and all people would come and praise my name."
Make your commitment to the Lord more valuable today! Authenticate it by searching the Truth for yourself! Jesus longs to make Himself personally known to you! Not by the introduction of another but through an intimate relationship with no barriers. To be an effective witness, you have to know that Jesus is exactly who He claims to be without a doubt and full of confidence. Then and only then will you be able to experience the true success of Christian living because the foundation of Truth is present! Only then will you be able to proclaim, "As surely as the Lord lives" because you will know He is alive in YOU!
